We're already half-way through #NoExcusesNovember, but it's not too late to step up your game and start working towards your goals this month. To lift your spirits and get you back in a workout mood, here's a little humorous motivation inspired by a month long break from all things fitness. Thanks to #TeamPumpUp member @thenewalexandra for sharing her journey!
8 thoughts everyone getting back into a fitness routine can relate to:
1. "WHAT - am I even doing?!"
This is the initial thought as you break free from your long hiatus. Where reality suddenly hits, and like a boulder from the tallest mountain, you fall from your (sugar?) high and realize everything you've done wrong. It’s time to take a step in the right direction – again. And this is so- okay.
2. HOW - do I do this again?
Suddenly even a simple push-up is unfathomable. In the midst of a sweat you begin to think “does my nose have to touch the ground?” or “I can only go half way, that’s okay right?”. Little cop-outs on posture and form take place. But, at least you’re trying, right?
3. WHY. IS. THIS. SO. TIRING.
Your old HIIT workout that once was a breeze, now has you reaching for the water bottle in between every single set. You’ll tell yourself it’s because hydration is important (which it is), but secretly, you’re just trying your hardest to catch your breath.
4. No candy. No candy. No candy.
You’ve got the workout part down now, and you’re feeling good. But, it’s time for a diet change. You’ll hear yourself repeat “abs are made in the kitchen” over and over again in your head as you walk past the cookie aisle in the grocery store. Your late night chocolate cravings will keep you awake, but you will NOT give in. But, if you do, you’ll try again tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day until your habits change.
5. Well - I DID walk home from class tonight.
All aboard justification station! Here comes the train! Did you walk instead of drive? Or take the stairs? Does your pedometer say 10,000 steps? Either way you’re trying to weasel your way out of the day’s workout.
7. I can do THIS.
Something clicks one day. You realize you’ve been doing it, and you’ve been harsh on yourself. Suddenly, this recognition drives you to try harder. You start telling yourself you’re amazing. You see changes, and you love it.
8. I DID IT AND IT FEELS SO GOOD!
Finally, you have reached this stage! You’re educated, you’re motivated and you’re in it to win it. You’ve curbed the cravings, you’ve conquered the urge to stay in bed and you’re ready. You’ve never felt better and you begin to wonder how you could have ever stopped your initial fitness journey in the first place! YOU’RE A SUPERSTAR!
