Cardiovascular disease runs in Becca's family. When her grandfather passed away from a heart attack, Becca began to take her health seriously. "It was a wakeup call that I needed to keep myself in shape if I wanted to live a long and healthy life," she insisted. "It has sort of become a challenge to see how fit I can be." But several physical and mental health obstacles stood in Becca's path. "I've always had to deal with anxiety every day— to the point that it becomes all-consuming," she lamented. "[And] before PumpUp, I definitely did not take the consequences of what I was eating seriously." Every time that Becca ate an unhealthy meal or treated herself to ice cream as an evening snack, she told herself that one more bad decision probably wouldn't make a difference. "It was slowly ruining my health and confidence," she recalled. "When it came to exercise, I would put in minimum effort and I told myself that was good enough."
When Becca joined PumpUp, she was looking for a way to document her health and fitness journey. "I wanted to share my successes and struggles with other people who are on similar journeys," she revealed. "I love using PumpUp because there is no judgement and everyone genuinely wants to see you do well." Becca took a long time to get into the groove of a routine that worked well for her, but began to see results in no time. Now, she's always putting maximum effort into her workouts. She exercises 4-6 days a week and incorporates a lot of heavy lifting and cardio into her workouts. "[When I exercise, it's] the hour of my day that I can look forward to when I'm feeling particularly anxious," she stated. "On some days, my workouts are the only time of the day where my head feels like it can actually relax. I never thought that I would get to a point where exercise would [bring me] to my happy place, after struggling with it for so long."
Becca makes an effort to engage with the PumpUp community as often as possible, giving and receiving tons of support along the way. "Using PumpUp, I've watched my body change for the better," she shared. "I have gained so much strength and am currently in the best shape that I have ever been. PumpUp makes it easy to forget about the scale and focus on having a [healthy] body image and a healthy body." Becca feels that she's already come a long way ever since she joined the community one year ago —but she knows that her journey isn't over. "It's very exciting to see what your body is capable of," she said happily. "Right now, I'm working on increasing my flexibility while continuing to explore healthy vegan options."
Becca's best advice for other PumpUp members
It sounds cliché, but never give up. I tried a lot of different workout routines before I found something I could commit to. I tried running, zumba, group classes, & YouTube videos at home. It wasn't until I started learning about weight lifting that I finally found what I enjoy. To commit to your goals, you need to have a healthy relationship with food & feed your body nutrients— not garbage. When it comes to your workouts, always put in 100% effort. It really does pay off when you push yourself, even when you're not motivated.
