8 Ways to Practice Self Love this Valentine's Day

Hey there, gorgeous soul! Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be only about one’s significant other. There’s Galentine’s for your best gal pals, but you also have a major need for self care and self love. 

Self love is not selfish. The person that often gets neglected on a daily basis is yourself. You should give yourself the same amount of love that you give out. Practice a little self care, because you deserve it: 


1. Chocolate is Life and Love

Buy yourself some chocolate and make delicious healthy brownies. Don’t skimp on quality—Go for the dark stuff. Dark chocolate has amazing properties, such as boosting your mood and heart health.

2. Eat Some Down-Home Cooking

Books and movies let you escape into the worlds of others, and music lets you connect to your emotions and elevate the positive ones. Reread the Harry Potter series or re-watch the movies. Choose your mental health escape based on the mood you’d like to feel afterward.


4. Your Body Deserves Love

Give your body love and attention, too. Let it move and dance, and take a moment to relax like never before.

Move your body! Stretch your body’s flexibility. Let out the aches and pains, moving between asanas and breathing into your next Tai Chi stance. Go for a run, or dance wildly in your pajamas like no one is watching.

Calm your body! Schedule a massage, or take a shoulder massager to those knots! Draw a hot bath and go for a long soak in rose petals.


5. Dress in Your Favorite Clothes

Go to your closet and take a look at what you have. Put on the dress or lingerie that makes you feel amazing. Wear your comfiest pajamas and fuzziest socks. 

This is also an opportunity to look through your wardrobe and let go of pieces you don’t like or need anymore. Construct a capsule wardrobe from your closet’s contents, choosing classic styles and your favorite pieces to feel like your best self everyday.


6. Commune with Nature

With the busy rush of everyday life, you often forget the gift that nature brings when you’re deep in the woods or climbing a mountain. Communing with nature gives you beautiful reminders that:

  • Everything has its own cycle. There are beginnings and endings, and all are intertwined.
  • Everything has its own pace. There are no right or wrong paces of going about life.
  • Everything has its path, and new ones can begin at any moment.

Take yourself out to commune with nature on a walk down a greenway or a hike in a national park. Get back in touch with your center in nature, and listen to nature’s wise reminders.


7. Learn Something New

Life is full of lessons, and you can spend time deciphering the good or bad meanings of life… Or, you could pull up your smarty pants, and apply your brilliance to learning something new. 

Learning never stops. Brush up on a new language. Learn to dance salsa on YouTube, and study other dance styles to improve your smooth moves at the club. Keep learning and discovering the new moments and lessons.


8. Take a Nap

You know you should be getting your eight hours, but it’s tough. It’s also okay to wrap yourself in a blanket burrito and nap the afternoon away. Go to bed in your coziest pajamas and silkiest sheets. Let yourself kick under them like a mermaid and hug your teddy bear. Take a perfect twenty-minute power nap or sleep for two hours. You deserve quality shut eye time.
