How Do You SVVEAT?

I remember this run like it was yesterday. It was my first 5k in months. I had finally summoned the courage to join a free run group after months of failing to run that distance on my own. A kilometre in, my lungs started feeling heavy. I stopped twice during the route just to catch my breath. Near the end of the run, I faked a leg cramp to make it seem like that was the reason I struggled so much. It didn’t make sense to me. I’d always been a pretty good athlete growing up but this felt different. I then developed an actual leg cramp after the run (go figure), which left me lots of time to think on my long walk home. It was all so upsetting but despite feeling discouraged, I knew I had to go back. The optimist in me knew that it could only get better from here.

A year and a half has passed since that run and so have a few 10 km races and my first half marathon. Integrating a balanced workout schedule has changed my life for the better and the Toronto fitness community has provided me with incredible experiences that I could’ve only dreamed of.

In 2015, I started a personal blog to share the beginning of my fitness journey and Darren Tam, my supportive then boyfriend and now husband came for the ride. He took photos and video of me whenever I asked and gave new meaning to the term #InstagramHusband as he not only worked his magic behind the camera but we often collaborated on the creative vision behind the media. While exploring Toronto’s neighbourhoods, we discovered an abundance of free workouts led by knowledgeable community leaders and made a ton of new friends in the process. It was this discovery and the realization that these experiences should be shared more broadly that Svveat was born.

Svveat is a new web-app that helps users find free fitness in Toronto and the GTA. You can search by category, by date and by location. At Svveat, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to be the happiest and healthiest versions of themselves, so we focus our efforts on showcasing community workouts that are completely free of charge. The Hosts featured on our website are organizations that you can count on each week or each month to help you achieve your fitness goals and have a great time doing it. As you might know, The PumpUp Community here in Toronto hosts amazing events each month and have been so much fun to participate in (see the photos here from our February dance event with Monica Gold)!

As it is #MightyMarch here at PumpUp, if you live in Toronto or the Greater Toronto area - I ask that you check out Svveat and I challenge you to sign up for a free class or two. Be fearless in your pursuit of new experiences because you never know who you might meet and what you may be able to achieve.
