Hi there! My name is Kaisha S. Huguley and I am an actress local to the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. As an actress, health and fitness are areas that are central and important to my brand (and to my life of course!). Whether I’m on stage or behind the camera, it is always my goal to present my best self with my talent and my physique. Health and fitness isn’t solely about appearance (Even though appearance is a part of it. Let’s be real. Who doesn’t want to look good, right?!). More importantly, it’s about developing a lifestyle that allows you to live and lead a happy, active, and healthy life.
Outside of caring for my health as it relates to my career, my health is important to my life! My health is important to me, my husband, my future children…it’s an area that impacts so many different things. I’m extremely grateful that I’ve found a healthy lifestyle that works for me. It took me years to develop a consistent healthy lifestyle; however, now that I have a grasp on what works for me, it’s exciting to share with others. Someone may find something in my routine that will work for or inspire them and the idea of being able to share this gift with others makes me so happy.
One of my biggest sources of motivation is Tracee Ellis Ross who is an amazing actress who prioritizes her health and wellness. I also admire comedian Kevin Hart who promotes health/wellness in creative ways such as his 5k races with Nike, Run with Hart. I also find inspiration in athletes/fitness competitors such as Camille G (@CamilleG33), Ashley Nocera (@ashleynocera), and Lita Lewis (@followthelita). All of these women are amazing athletes with a relentless amount of determination.
My best advice to someone looking to lead a healthier lifestyle is to jump up and get started right away. Don’t think about it because you may overthink it. Just get up and go. Be gentle and realistic with yourself. Start small. Don’t overdo it, if you’re not use to intense training. Meet yourself where you are and grow from there. You are more likely to be successful if you start from a realistic place then grow versus trying to do more than what you can handle.
Since 2013, I’ve lost over 30lbs and I feel like a completely different person. I feel like I got my life back. I’m more active and in shape than I have ever been in my entire life. The result of all of my hard work is so rewarding. Going to the gym isn’t the struggle it once was. I get excited about going to the gym and getting in a good workout. I find myself in the gym at all kinds of crazy hours in the night (or in the morning) and I’m loving every single minute of it. My husband and I usually go to the gym together which has definitely motivated me to keep going. It is also one of the ways that we spend time together and because we both enjoy the gym, we have so much fun.
It’s during the times that I’m choosing to work out and be active that I realize I’m making the conscious decision to honor my body and do something good for myself. It is my goal to inspire others and ultimately pass this motivation to lead a healthy lifestyle on to my future children. There are people all over the world that are unable to be active and healthy due to varying circumstances. Health is something many of us take for granted. Being healthy and active is a true gift that I’m beyond grateful for!
