Smoothies are a quick and convenient way to start your day, but they aren’t always as healthy as you might think.
In fact, many smoothie recipes are just the opposite: Depending on the ingredients, it would be quite easy to surpass your daily allotment of sugar (even if it’s “all natural”) and take in 600, 700, 800 calories, or more from just one smoothie!
No matter how healthy the ingredients may look, a smoothie like this is more likely to help you pack on a few pounds than to drop a few.
Here’s a breakfast smoothie recipe that is just as healthy as it sounds. And yes, it still tastes amazing!
Spiced Carrot-Banana Breakfast Smoothie
This breakfast smoothie has just six ingredients, making it super-easy to prepare. Here’s a breakdown of each ingredient and why it’s so good for staying healthy and getting lean:
Ginger – It’s a stomach soother, immune booster, infection fighter, and is an anti-inflammatory superstar.
Banana – Aids in digestion, is packed with potassium, lowers blood pressure, offers healthy carbs for energy, and provides a lower-calorie sweetener than many other smoothie choices.
Turmeric - It’s a powerful anti-inflammatory, is rich in antioxidants, battles cystic fibrosis, defends against free radicals, and helps lower cholesterol.
Carrot – Another antioxidant, carrots are rich in vitamin A and beta-carotene. Plus, they are another free radical fighter, and are low on the glycemic index (particularly when cooked!)
Pea Protein Powder – One of the most natural and most easily digested protein supplements on the market, pea protein helps build muscle and fights off hunger.
Avocado – Packed with healthy fats, avocados are also rich in fiber, which aids digestion. They are another anti-inflammatory that helps lower cholesterol, strengthen bones, and improve satiation (they help fill you up!)
1 frozen banana
1 cup cooked carrots
1 scoop pea protein
½ Tbsp ground ginger
¼ tsp ground tumeric
Add 4 ice cubes and ½ cup of water. Blend and drink up!
