There was a time when the mere thought of exercise made Hanna exhausted. Before she started University, Hanna’s erratic work schedule wreaked havoc on her diet and her energy levels. “I normally had nine to twelve hour shifts with a thirty minute break for lunch, and I’d go out late with my friends several times a week,” she explained. “I’d snack on loads of bread at work, and when I wasn’t at work, I was so exhausted that I only wanted to lay down and watch movies all day. I was way too tired to exercise.”
Upon entering University, Hanna joined a volleyball team and started to change her habits. She downloaded PumpUp a few months later to keep her motivation high. “I wanted to be able to track my progress and be inspired by other members,” she shared. “I loved the fact that PumpUp is like Instagram, but specifically for fitness and health. I felt like I could share much more on PumpUp and get the support [I needed]."
Hannah’s lifestyle now revolves around exercise. She plays volleyball at least 3 evenings a week and she goes to the gym regularly, depending on her work and school schedule. “If I don’t have time to go to the gym, I go on a walk or jog by the sea,” she insisted. “I eat mainly healthy, but I allow myself treats now and then. I’d go crazy if I didn’t allow myself to eat any chocolate or crisps. I make sure to get a bit of everything in my meals and I don’t cut out carbs — they’re important for me to keep my energy levels high."
Over the course of her fitness journey, Hanna lost a total of 12 kilograms. She keeps herself motivated by looking at progress pictures and by staying active. “My journey is not just about losing weight, it’s about learning,” she shared. “I’m learning what is good for me, but also how to love myself. It is important for everyone to listen to their bodies, be patient and learn to love themselves as they are, before and after making a change."

"I love breakfast and I have a big breakfast every morning (porridge and fruits or granola, yoghurt and fruit) with peppermint tea, which I believe is super important to start the day!"

“Indoor volleyball and beach volleyball will always be my favourite! I also love surfing (even though I’m not good at it), yoga and I love being in the gym! Any exercise is fun really, it keeps my mind off work and makes me feel good!"

"I’m in my second year of University studying Zoology. I have never really been good at sport until I started playing volleyball with the University club (i was terrible when I started!!) and since then I have been elected President of our volleyball club for next year and I’m the captain of the girls team! I was pretty dedicated to becoming a good volleyball player and I’m so happy that I pushed myself and not give up when it was hard."
